UL Standard 608 for Vault Doors ( UL-Standard-608 )

Burglary Resistant Vault Doors and Modular PanelsUL Standard 608

Scope ( UL-Standard-608 )

Underwriters Laboratories defines the requirements covering prefabricated panels which are used in the construction of modular vaults. In order to avoid any weak links the panels should be used for floors, walls and ceilings.

Modular vaults are used by financial, commercial and industrial institutions and banks for protecting their valuable assets against burglary attacks.

UL technicians test the burglary resistance of vault doors with the use of hand tools, electrically-operated tools, cutting torches or any combination of such tools.

Depending on the time it takes the technicians to gain entry, the ratings awarded are as follows:

a) Class M - 1/4 hour.

b) Class 1 - 1/2 hour.

c) Class 2 - 1 hour.

d) Class 3 - 2 hours.

These requirements do not cover attacks with the thermal lance or explosives.
